please check out the 'daily' by the little boss next in this gallery, i think she did a great job. the little boss and i took a break and went for a walk today. we stopped to visit friends and then i noticed the great late sun as we were walking back to the restaurant. the little boss just loved this idea and wanted to do a special pose, here:

dedmanshootn > december day at whatcom falls
12/29/08

this is whatcom falls on whatcom creek. its right in my city but i don't go very often as its a bit of a hike to get to from the nearest bus alas. my sis came up early for the dinner we planned with 'family of the heart' (a phrase i believe i coined for those friends that are as close or closer than one's own blood) at the restaurant where i work - becuase the bosses four are definitely in that catagory too. we'd waited til now for our holiday dinner because of the less than easy weather conditions before. sis and i cruised on over to the falls and fought through the slush and heavy rain to enjoy it and try what pics we might. i'm quite happy with this one and the water coming over the falls is a nice torrent because of the thaw and rain. hopefully i'll be getting some more processed and posted if they turn out. have a great week all
dedmanshootn > sunflower in need of a stylist
09/22/08

didn't get out at all today and nothing creative came to mind (my head's full of tapioca, it generally is but especially in the immediate aftermath of a migraine) to shoot around my apartment so i'm posting another sunflower i shot the other day. this one was shot with available light. i really like what the wind and rain had done to it. thanks so much for the kind well wishes and comments on my other sunflower
dedmanshootn > freshly popped 'shroom
11/06/08

another shot i laid down and got dirty for. never did get quite what i wanted here despite more than a dozen attempts, plus bracketing and a couple with flash. one of those cases where the ten percent the camera catches just can't match up to one's eye. (that sounds so much better than my skills just weren't up to the job). other than a slight tweak to the contrast and sharpness when i developed from raw this is as the camera saw it. to all y'all on the far side of the time-line have a great week-end and to the rest of you, hang on! the week-end's coming

still half-asleep in the shower
08/25/08

had lovely rain showers for the past couple days. i like to walk in the rain and thought this hollyhock bud perfect subject for my daily. used the on camera flash for set very low for fill. i sure did enjoy the olympics. watched quite a bit live when i was awake in the middle of the night. the dust on the sensor is still annoyingly there, should've magically cleaned itself by now shouldn't it ;-) just one more necessary thing i've been letting slip. shall try to get on it this week
dedmanshootn > sunny ivy leaf
02/01/09

saw lots of interesting and beautiful shots as i caught up some on the dailies. i've said it before but it bears resaying, its a pleasure to take part in such a project with such a fine bunch of photographers and people! thanks so much again for all the well wishes. other than looking through daily galleries i mainly caught up on my sleep today so missed most of our sunny day tho not all of it thankfully. i look forward to catching all the way up on your great pics today hopefully. enjoy your day
dedmanshootn > sycamore (probably) blossoms and freshly popped leaves
04/23/08

i don't know for sure what this is but the man mowing the yard told me its a sycamore tree. the leaves literally came out of the bud with the sunshine today. i was fascinated by the fine hairs in both the leaves and blossoms. i wish a had an actual macro lens though probably wouldn't have done any better as my tripod was holding down the fort at home while i walked to do some errands
dedmanshootn > tiger swallowtail butterfly (i think)
07/12/08 (1of2)

we had a beautiful visitor at work today. he flew up, exhausted, and landed on our front door just as i was getting off the bus. i got a piece of paper and urged him onto it then carried him around to our back door in the shade. after an hour or so of resting he recovered somewhat and crawled up our brickwall which is where i got this shot once the initial lunch rush had been served. there is a second post today, at the "please, please, PLEASE!" request of the little boss, of her and this beauty. this is the first large live butterfly she's seen 'in the wild'. i'm off to bed once again but i think i am a bit better today than yesterday. rotten colds! i'm taking the week-end off so shall be looking through what i've missed, and boy am i looking forward to that!, when and as i have energy. thanks for all the well wishes
