sure glad i thought of this, completely on my own and not because any of you suggested it ;-). actually it was kind of funny. when i read the comment by http://tdm.smugmug.com/ on the pic of my sis and this tree suggesting one of me would make a nice triple with her and DOD i thought "what a great idea i'll ask my sis" so i called her and left a message asking for a pic like this one. before i heard back from her i checked my e-s and earlier in the day, before i was on, she'd already seen the pic and the comment and sent me this pic because she thought it was a good idea too. so thanks for the idea and here is the result. sis's camera is about twice the mgpx, and half the size - no cam envy me ;-) , as mine so if you view larger - the bark is pretty cool i think - it'll take longer to load probably. hope you have a great weeek

this tree is just awe inspiring. you can feel the age but also the continued vitality. i very much wanted to get a pic like the one with my late DOD (link below) but there were some very rude people deliberately blocking access so sis and i made do with a different angle. rude people are their own problem and best just ignored if at all possible i feel. sis and i were happy with the pics we got anyway, and the connection to DOD was there regardless also. glad for those of you that got a chuckle from yesterday's sign shot, can never have too many laughs in a day i think. i'm doing better again and plan to comment as much as i can while my energy holds. really looking forward to catching up. the dailies, and smug in general have such wonderful pics all the time that even a couple days leave many wonderful pics missed. hope you're having a great week-end

dedmanshootn > the very first of spring!
02/21/09

these are the very first flowers i've seen bloom in 2009. they're on a south slope that gets sun all day except a bit of shade at the start and end of the days. nothing else i've seen is close to blooming yet but these sure were a welcome sight on my way home from work. have a great week-end all

grabbed this by the bus stop. deliberatley left my camera padked into my duffle so i wouldn't be tempted to try to shoot anything on my trip. natureally i saw all kinds of interesting things to shoot :) but the buses were all totally full and crowded with other holiday commuters, and their (my) luggage, and running late so i'm glad i didn't have the added distraction of my camera eye being 'on' but just enjoyed the people and the trip. enjoyed the price too as with my bus pass and knowing which bus routes to transfer through i managed to travel approx one-hundred-twelve miles for two dollars and fifty cents/ safe and sound at sis/b-i-l's and ready for serious relaxin and eatin. WAY to much food for just the three of us. smallest family thanksgiving dinner ever but we're happy and thankful to be together and for all our blessings. too tired and rattling on so i'll just end with one of my fav quotes, i admire the great quotes so many of you find and include:

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more." melody beattie
dedmanshootn > burly maple branch
09/19/08

this is a large branch of the oldest maple tree i know of in town. its a couple blocks up the street i live on and i've been told that this tree is over one hundred years old and is the reason that maple street is called maple st. i love the color and texture of this great old tree. the lawters finished up their thing and then we the jury did our thing. i've heard rumors that our verdict was the fastest civil verdict in county history. we all thought deeply about it for the past two weeks as evidence and testimony were presented and 11 of 12 (actuallyy 13 of 14 as i was able to ask the two alternates what they would have voted given the chance)of us reached exactly the smae conclusions and in a civil case of this type only ten need agree. its always a privilege to serve tho also quite trying. i have a wicked headache so i off back to bed. have a great week-end all

don't have anything dramatic for a pic to commeorate this day in u.s. history alas tho i was reminded of the most profound comment i've heard yet on the events of 9/11 which was made right at the time it happened. its far and away the best despite all the thought and talk since and was made by a young lady who happened to be four years old at the time. her mother and grandmother were talking and crying on the phone in shock at the appalling act and mom and gramma were her world. she started singing
"Jesus loves me this i know, for the bible tells me so..."
for those who've suggested i shoot the drama of the courtroom or whatever i'm guessing you haven't served on juries yet. this is my sixth i've been picked for and fourth that i've served on (knew the defendant in two of them) and never once have i seen the tiniest hint of drama, though i am known for being unimaginative and curmudgeonly that way so don't go by me. the closest i've been to courtroom drama was when i was a witness and i overheard a couple of worthless if not downright crooked (i support the police so i hate to call these ones crooked but they've left no choice) detectives discussing how they would lie in response to my testimony to justify their making a big deal of a not so big case. they later were severely reprimanded by the judge in regard to another 'cowboy cop' move they made in the same trial. the drama was i was about to ____________ (insert soemthing violent and nasty) all over them but they were reined in by the prosecutor before they could carry through with their paln fortunately. must be tired if i'm setting out all this but i don't like to erase where my mind/spirit take me without very good reason so you're stuck with this if you're one of those who reads everything. condolences to all involved in any aspect of the 9/11 tragedy, including the misguided perptrators families

inspired by y'all who actually know what you're doing with light and lenses and everything i was practicing with the on-camera flash a bit in the minutes i had before work. this was the closest to turning out how i envisioned. try try again is about the only way i know how to learn. i also knock down brick walls with my head for my encore
dedmanshootn > why maple street is called maple street

this is my favorite tree trunk in town. the twists, cool bark and thickness just blow me away
