please check out the next pic in this gallery, its the little boss's take on this daily. she was at work with us the past two day and will likely be today also as the schools have been closed due to the flooding. see the weather report below if you're interested. i'm including a link to the full size pics used for this below also. these shots came about because the little bass wanted to sharpen her pencils but they wouldn't work right in her little sharpener so after we had lunch i showed her how we used to sharpen pencils with a knife in 'the old days'. our deal was i'd sharpen if she'd clean up so she grabbed on of our guest check trays to carry the chips to the wastebasket and i said "hey that would make a cool picture" and here you are. i really like the one of her hands and for those of you that like pics ;like that i recommend the link to the full-size pic.

the rain has finally slowed and occasionally stopped for a half hour or so. its also cooled down which should help slow down the melt run-off from the mountains. according to a amature weather station not to far from my place we've had close to tem inches of rain right here in the past sixty hours or so. the worst i've heard around the area was over fifteen and the reports from the mountains have said that snow pack has melted as much as twenty-eight inches in the same period. some of the transit drivers were on alert with buses ready to go in case smaller communities along the river needed to be evacuated en mass but fortunately that plan didn't have to be used tho many people have had to abandon their homes. my sis and b-i-l are ok though the water came all the way up their yard but not into the house thankfully. several of out friends have had to abandon their homes or suffered other property damage but so far no injuries or worse to anyone we know. thanks for all the well wishes. blessings to all y'all

didn't go out at all today despite some nice sunshine, just too tired to move. this, plus some sea salt and vinegar potato chips, was lunch, had some juicy (on sale) globe grapes for desert. while cooking i had a switch click in my head and composed a... i'll call it poem, as i was remembering the comments and fun with karina and john a couple weeks ago about fried food, while i was waiting for my food to be ready. quite a few of you have shared such so i decided to afflict you with mine:

fried til i've died

i like fried food and i will not lie
tho other people may decry,
and say it puts zits on my face
and it'll cause my heart to race;
but i say YUM!
fried chicken? give me some!
add some lovely pommes de frit
and fried dough to go with it.
fry some ice cream put it on a plate
i'll eat it whate'er my fate.
our days number is by us unkown
this world is just a temporary home,
so eat what you have with zest!
cooked the way that you like best.
for me that'll often be fried
enjoyed til the day i've died.
whene'er they lay me 'neath the sod
and i'm face to face with God
i expect He'll hear me say,
in my own unsubtle way,
"i like fried food and i will not lie!"

can't ever remember seeing a halloween tree before, let alone a mobile one. took a different street walking home from doing errands and this was begging for a pic. we have some interesting merchants downtown

this was hande-made for the little boss's birthday by a young man who wants to be an artist when he grows up. pretty good artist already i think. the little boss's take on her latest b-day presents is next for those of you interested. they'll be more from her soon. sorry but i won't be commenting today as my hands are simply NOT playing the game today drat it. (i barely made it through work without dropping anything) shall catch up when i can. hope you're having a great week

this is a close up of the pepper oil we make at the r4estaurant in its serving dish as a table condiment. way back when, when i posted the pic of the dried chilis and tools i use to prep them (see link below) quite a few asked what we did with my work. i finally got a shot that shows what we do with the seeds reasonably well so that's what you're getting today. the pepper pieces themselves we use in cooking many of our most popular mandarin and szechuan dishes. the fav by most ordered is our mongolian beef, which does totally kick and i eat it a lot, but my fav in mandarin chicken - chicken wings (my fav food period i think) deep fried then stirfried in a bit of sauce with plenty of dried chilis and just a bit of green onion, peas and diced carrots for accent, mmmmmmmmmm! count your blessings today, i hope there's more than you have time to count
