dedmanshootn > pelicans on a gray day (b&w) 10/30/09 sorry to have been awol. had severe allergy attack early wed morning that almost hospitalized me and have just had no energy beyond basic survival the past couple days. felt a lot better today so went and had lunch with my sis. wshe much appreciated the comments on her guest daily. took me six buses and about three and a half hours each way to get there and back so my burst of energy has pretty well flown the coop. plan to catch up with the great pics i know i've missed this week-end. i didn't take me cam with me so your getting one more 'trip' pic. today's weather was an awesome day, by my admittedly unusual standards anyway, with heavy clouds and wind with occasional spatters of rain just like the mood of this one so idecided to stick you with it. it was almost monochrome anyway but had a bit of an odd tone so i converted it. the grass is blurry and falttened because the wind was gusting near forty mph. happy halloween! to see previous dailies click here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/

dedmanshootn > sunset silhouettes, la push, wa 10/27/09 just had to share one more sunset from la push. it looks like i'm going to have to live with the cam not really working right for at least a while as its more expensive to fix than its worth i fear. can sorta limp it along at least so i'm not dead in the water. really hoping to somehow by means 'a' or 'b', 'a' is hook and 'b' is crook ;-) , swing an upgrade body that will still work with the lenses i have. can't make any promises what you'll get for a daily meanwhile, like that's a surprise to those of you who know me as one NEVER knows what to expect from me i hear :-) , but should still be able to at least bring something to the party. it would seem my cam is just getting old and tired like me ;-) . thanks for the nice comments on my sis's pic of me. i thought it was real good other than its model to see previous dailies click here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/
dedmanshootn > dave on the roots - guest daily by my sis 10/26/09 sure glad i thought of this, completely on my own and not because any of you suggested it ;-). actually it was kind of funny. when i read the comment by http://tdm.smugmug.com/ on the pic of my sis and this tree suggesting one of me would make a nice triple with her and DOD i thought "what a great idea i'll ask my sis" so i called her and left a message asking for a pic like this one. before i heard back from her i checked my e-s and earlier in the day, before i was on, she'd already seen the pic and the comment and sent me this pic because she thought it was a good idea too. so thanks for the idea and here is the result. sis's camera is about twice the mgpx, and half the size - no cam envy me ;-) , as mine so if you view larger - the bark is pretty cool i think - it'll take longer to load probably. hope you have a great weeek pic of sis here w/link to pic of DOD here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/4753036_v9Lqd#691059535_ovG9W to see previous dailies click here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/
dedmanshootn > diving in pelican fishing series (2of4) 10/25/09 next pic: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/gallery/4753036_v9Lqd#691059788_2Hms9 previous pic: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/4753036_v9Lqd#687545405_zGvGJ this isn't the same bird as the "pelican targeting" shot (click previous pic above to see), because it was about then that my cam started acting up, but the sequence is the same: target, dive, grab, gulp - or cuss if missed ;-) - and fly. i found these on another chip and decided to post as a series after the several comments about the targeting shot that had never seen such. these aren't very good shots but did at least capture the feel i think. unfortunately, due to cam probs, the shot with his beak distended with water as he came to the surface, which should be between three and four, didn't get taken so you'll have to imagine it to see previous dailies click here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/

dedmanshootn > sis on the roots 1000+ year old sitka spruce quinault, wa 10/24/09 this tree is just awe inspiring. you can feel the age but also the continued vitality. i very much wanted to get a pic like the one with my late DOD (link below) but there were some very rude people deliberately blocking access so sis and i made do with a different angle. rude people are their own problem and best just ignored if at all possible i feel. sis and i were happy with the pics we got anyway, and the connection to DOD was there regardless also. glad for those of you that got a chuckle from yesterday's sign shot, can never have too many laughs in a day i think. i'm doing better again and plan to comment as much as i can while my energy holds. really looking forward to catching up. the dailies, and smug in general have such wonderful pics all the time that even a couple days leave many wonderful pics missed. hope you're having a great week-end 'front' of tree with DOD http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Mostly-nature/daves-faves/4931081_5dSa9#261210721_Z8Gpt for previous daily pics click here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/
dedmanshootn > we serve crabs 10/23/09 i always get a chuckle from signs like this. a fav t-shirt, long since worn to rags alas, had a picture of the fish over the wehole chest with the caption "i have a crappie attitude" - got a grin just remembering and writing about it. this sign is in 'the one eyed crab', westport, wa. if you're in westport i highly recommend you go as its just excellent food, a fun staff and atmosphere and priced right to boot. sis and i restrained ourselves and only ate there four times in the five days we were in the area ;-) . i ran a search for a link but they don't have theire own website. i did find a link to a review, from the ny times no less, not just ME that thought they were a great placve i reckon. thanks for all the wonderful comments on the swallowtail yesterday. to answer the question, no the background is not wet. it is gloss enamel trim from around the kitchen door, you can see it in the shot of the little boss on the link. i shot the pic with my 18-55mm from approximately six inches, same as this shot actually :-) . i apologize for not being around to comment today, just the usual suspects. managed to gather enough together to post this and i'm off to bed. hopefully tomorrow will be a better day by God's grace. peace and joy to all of good will one eyed crab review http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/travel/06bites.html for previous daily pics click here: http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/Other/the-daily-picture/

dedmanshootn > watching the sunset at grayland wa 10/20/09 grayland is where sis and i stayed longest, with many thanks to my friends d & d whose generosity in lonaing us their place there made the whole trip feasible. terrific beaches with good access, many can be driven on so are accessible even if you're not greatly mobile like me, and a location that made it easy to go either up or down the coast.
